Episode 48- Rising to the occasion is a weak response.
…Do this instead.

We don’t rise to the occasion, we sink to the level of our training.
You might have heard this before, it can be said in many different ways.
We can rise to the occasion but I’m asking you not to. Why? Because, as you’ll learn from this episode, too much pressure for too long causes really big problems. Problems like burnout, exhaustion, anxiety, depression, diabetes, heart disease. All kinds of problems!
But there is one thing that can help and that is preparation.
So many people go all in - burn their bridges, quit their jobs and shut everything off. And when our safety net gets taken away, gravity changes. Adrenaline and pressure increase. We make decisions from a place of panic and fear. It can impact us in ways we can’t really predict or understand.
I talk about how to avoid the pressure of the gravity change, and what to do if you’re already in that situation.
Importantly, I take you through how to reframe pressure -
You can use pressure as an ally and a tool for peak performance. I explain how to do that by frontloading pressure - intentionally and on purpose.
I share three ways of doing this:
Simulate the real thing
Think about the ways it could go wrong and simulate those
Seek out uncomfortable situations and experiences that will grow you as a human.
If something feels scary and exciting at the same time. If it terrifies you and it turns you on. Do it.
We don’t rise to the occasion. We can, but that’s unsustainable. We sink to the level of our training. That’s what superfreaks do. If you want to continue to improve your life, income, career, happiness and health sustainably, for the rest of your life, know this -
- intentional discomfort is the way to do it.
