If 2025 feels like a full-blown storm of noise, fear, and “what the actual f*ck is going on?” this one’s for you.

There’s a lot of noise out there. AI-generated content is everywhere, online advice changes by the day, and there’s an underlying sense of pressure to keep up or be forgotten. But here’s what I know for sure:

You don’t need to shout to be remembered.
You need to be trusted.

Whether you’re growing a business, leading a team, raising kids, or simply trying to be a grounded human in the chaos, trust is the real strategy. It's also the thing that makes people want to talk about you (in a good way) when you're not in the room.

This is the future of business. Not content hacks. Not clever tricks. Not being the loudest person in the algorithm. It’s knowing how to build trust in business, and becoming the kind of person people refer without hesitation.

Reputation Is the Real Growth Strategy

When people are overwhelmed or unsure, they don’t scroll Instagram for answers. They ask someone they trust.
A friend. A mentor. Their sister-in-law.
And if that person says, “You have to work with her,” they do.

This is how business is moving now. Quietly. Intentionally. Through reputation, not reach.
Through referrals, not volume.
Through a connection that is felt, not just seen.

The Story That Changed How I Think About Trust

In this episode of the Superfreak Podcast, I share the story of a mortgage broker who blew me away, not with fancy marketing, but with generosity, presence, and clarity.

He spent 45 minutes on the phone with a family member of mine, knowing full well she wasn’t in a position to buy. He wasn’t rushing her. He wasn’t trying to convert her. He was listening. Educating. Genuinely helping.

She asked to pay him for his time.
He refused.
He said, “This is how I run my business. It’s built on referrals.”

And he got one. From me.
Because I felt something in that interaction that made me want to share his name. And that’s what you’re really building when you build trust. A reputation that people feel proud to pass on.

Here’s How You Actually Build Trust in Business:

  • You listen more than you speak

  • You show up when no one’s watching

  • You’re generous with your time, even when it doesn’t “convert”

  • You’re regulated, calm, and present under pressure

  • You know how to hold space when someone’s nervous, overwhelmed, or on the edge of something big

  • You’re more interested in impact than impression

This is what makes someone refer you.
Not because you were interesting, but because you were interested.

What Makes Someone Refer You?

It’s not just about being good at what you do.
It’s about how people feel after being in your space.

Do they feel seen?
Do they feel safe?
Do they walk away with clarity, direction, or just a better feeling in their body?

Because that moment of felt trust is what they’ll talk about. That’s what they’ll remember.

And It’s Not Just About Business

This skill set, the ability to connect, listen, lead, and regulate yourself, doesn’t just grow your career, it changes your relationships. It shifts how you show up in hard conversations. It builds trust with your kids, your clients, your team, your community.

It’s how a coach becomes unforgettable.
It’s how a leader keeps their team steady during big change.
It’s how you ask for a raise, hold a boundary, or navigate uncertainty without losing yourself.

This is the skill set I teach inside Be Your Own Coach. It’s not about hype or performance. It’s about presence, clarity, and becoming the most trusted version of yourself, in business and in life.

If you’re trying to grow something real right now, and it feels harder than you expected, please hear this:

You don’t need to post more.
You don’t need to shout louder.
You just need to keep doing remarkable work. The kind people talk about behind your back in the best way possible.

That’s how you build trust.
That’s how you build a business people refer.
