Life inevitably throws unexpected curveballs, like grief, illness and family emergencies. So how do you keep your business afloat while honouring what matters most — taking time to grieve, heal and be with loved ones?

This episode comes from a place close to my heart as I share with you my personal experiences and provide practical advice for how to keep your head above water.

Recognising Life's Impact

The first thing is we need to recognise the impact of life events. So often we set goals with this idea that, because we’ve set the goal or signed up for this mentorship or just started our business now, nothing is allowed to go wrong. And that's just not how life works.

We actually have to live as though the unexpected emergencies are guaranteed. They might not always come as big tragedies - even little things can really disrupt the flow of what to do.

Self Compassion and Setting Boundaries

The next part of addressing setbacks involves having self-compassion and setting priorities and boundaries. During tough times, it's crucial to be compassionate with yourself.

Self-compassion helps regulate emotions, improve decision-making and reduce stress and anxiety. Once you've practised self-compassion, it's vital to reassess and set priorities. It's okay to push some tasks to the side or reschedule them to ensure you have time for what truly matters.

Practical Strategies and Support Systems

Practical strategies are key to keeping your business running during personal crises. This includes automating tasks, utilising technology, delegating to virtual assistants and communicating transparently with clients about any potential delays. It's also helpful to explore business models and schedules that offer flexibility.

Leaning on support systems is equally critical. Whether it's friends, family, professional networks, or a therapist, having a support system in place can provide the help you need to navigate tough times.

Remember, be gentle with yourself. Don't set goals or plans with this undercurrent of not being able to afford for this to go wrong. Instead, set your sights on creating achievement with space for life to do its thing, knowing you have tools in place to support you.
