Wild, impossible goals...

…are the next SMART goals

Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time bound goals. These are the only obtainable goals, right? Wrong!

The SMART method is just ONE way of thinking about goals. And quite frankly, it feels more like a to-do list than a dream that you’re turning into reality.

If you have some wild, impossible dreams right now, this episode is for you.

You’re moving from highly functional to exceptional and I’m giving you permission to break the mold.

When you allow yourself to really dream, you’re breaking down the barriers of time, space, matter, and energy and tapping into the field where pure potentiality exists.

What is one thing you can do today to move in the direction of your dream?

Break it down to something very small and you’ll be so delighted to see how quickly your life transforms when you are willing to do that.

Most of all, allow yourself to dream.

I have been having so many conversations recently about goals, goals, goals, goals. I'm sick of the word to be perfectly honest with you. I wanted to bring a quick episode to you today as a bit of a thought experiment. I have no interest in your SMART goals. Specific, measurable, achievable, attainable, 'R' for realistic and 'T" for time oriented.

Oh there's so much wrong with this. There's so much wrong with this. No, okay, I'm not gonna say wrong. Let me take that back. It's not wrong. It's one method of thought. It's one way of thinking about goals. And to me it feels like more of a to do list. Than exciting if you know what I mean. Like, let's think about it for a second.

If it's specific. That's hard because some of the things I've dreamed of I could not be specific about same with my clients because when it's really specific, it's very, very clear and sometimes we're not clear because we've never experienced it before in our life.

So being very specific, and I understand the terms is specific in terms of like, I'd like to make X amount of money by X amount of time that's specific. That's good. It is clear that’s awesome,

…but sometimes we also have a very foggy vision about what it is that we want..

and so it's not specific enough and the first step of SMART goals is ruined. So specific, not so interested in, but foggy unclear that turns me on. Yeah, I'm interested in that.

Measurable okay. I don't know why it matters if I can measure it necessarily. If I'm creating something wildly impossible, I suppose I could measure what I have, done, I suppose a good measure if it's actually occurred.

I think it's important that we don't make states, internal states goals. We get them very confused. Sometimes.

Sometimes we make happiness a goal. Happiness is an internal state. It's something we can access. Now. It's completely limitless.

It can't be tracked, it can't be measured. It's something that is accessible at any time. And sometimes if we put it as a goal, and I can see why we do sometimes have gone through a period of deep unhappiness and we are actively working towards being happy, then I would agree with that.

But you know, when we're talking about wild, impossible goals, when we're going from highly functional to exceptional, making a state a goal is silly….

…because we're putting internal states out into the future that we can access right now.

So sometimes a person wants a, you know, a big yacht or something. I think it's going to give them a feeling of connection to nature, but the feeling of connection to nature is available to us right now. If that's the feeling underneath the goal.

Then manifestation, the law of attraction says the more we can create the feeling of what it is that we want, the closer we bring it to us.

So the only thing I'd want to be measuring if I'm creating things that feel wild and impossible and incredible would be, am I feeling the feeling underneath it every single day? Right? Measurable that's how I would interpret measurable from a -let's create something wild and impossible.

Action oriented. Yes, okay. We do need to take action towards our goals. Because if we make a state a goal, we're not really you know, a goal is something that can be measured. It's something that might take time to create it's possibly something external not internal. So actionable would be yep - you take action towards it, I suppose.

And then realistic. I have a problem with this word, realistic, because what's realistic to one person is unrealistic to another and if we want to transform our lives, we have to go beyond what we think is realistic.

If it's realistic and attainable. It's more like a to do list than a dream that we're turning into reality

…and I might be completely wrong.

How I Learned about goals was it's like, you get into a dream state and you really go beyond what you can comprehend is true, right? Real, available to you. Possible for you, possible for anyone who's gone before you, anything you've seen before, really, and you find what lights you up. And then instead of reverse engineering it, because that's kind of impossible at different times, we don't have specific steps we can take, which I guess cancels out the action step anyway.

You stay connected with how it feels and you trust yourself and you figure it out along the way, but you don't have a time limit, because that would mess it up. Right?

So SMART goals are cool. Because you know, they set us on fire in a way to do things that we know are specific, measurable, realistic, and within a certain timeline, but it's very much on this actionable predictable, it's just in front of me. I'm just making myself do it kind of plane.

And I'm interested in creating impossible things. You know why? Because I don't need to hear your to do list. You can do it on your own. It's more like keeping accountability with yourself. But I am interested in like, what's the thing that you secretly dream of like?

I have this belief, it's an inherent core belief in me, that our desires are meant for us.

Even if they don't seem possible, even if they seem wildly irrational, crazy, even. I still believe they're meant for us. Why would we have them if they weren't meant for us? I don't believe that life is playing hooky with us. I don't believe that life is playing tricks on us, I believe our desires were put there they are divined for us. And just because we in our world with our interesting ideas about it, don't see a way for it to immediately happen within a certain timeframe and for it to be realistic.

I feel like we so easily cast our eyes away from our visions of things that we want because of this like realistic, timed thing.

It's wonderful to have these very SMART goals if you're moving from like, ‘I've literally never taken action on anything in my life.’ You kind of not functioning to functioning but..

… when you're functioning or highly functioning and going to exceptional you don't need goals.

You don't need accountability. You don't need a timeline. We know about manifestation we know that things can happen. They just take however long they take, sometimes it's way less than we assume. Sometimes it's way more.

So when you're moving from highly functional to exceptional, we don't use SMART goals as a fun way to keep ourselves, you know, turned on and lit up by what it is that we're doing. Instead, you know, we think what is it that I really, really, really want?

Let's not worry about the how, let's not worry about what it would mean if I want it. Let's not think about what it would mean if I failed miserably at it.

What is it that I truly want? What's the feeling underneath it? Can I cultivate that feeling inside of my body right now, which means that we are operating from a different energetic state, an internal state, a state that matches where it is that we want to go from that state we tend to make different decisions like when you're feeling super happy, and energized and in charge you'll probably make different decisions about your future than you would if you're feeling sad, lonely, angry, frustrated, upset.

We make very different decisions about consequences when we're feeling super in love or supercharged or super turned on.

We make very different decisions in our lives based on our internal state.

So it's not different when it comes to your quote unquote goals. Because if you feel an internal state that is in alignment with the goal you're probably going to take different actions, think different thoughts believe different things, so that state is very, very important.

And from that state, asking yourself if I was already there, what would I be doing differently?

What's the first step I can take that is available to me now, there's always a first step you can take. It's always something that's available to us right in this moment and you'll find the right thing when you're in the right state. Once you've allowed yourself to truly want what it is that you truly want without all the muck. Who am I to even want this? I don't know if it's possible. It's definitely not possible. My partner wouldn't be behind it. It's absolutely silly. It's what if I fail? I want it so badly. I can't even imagine failing, failing feels awful. So I'm just going to tell myself I don't know what I want. I'm going to go for something like not as good, which I wouldn't care so much if I didn't get it.

This is what we do as human beings.

We go for the things we don't really want to avoid the disappointment of going for what we do want and not getting it …

..so we live a life that's kind of stale, and always kind of disappointing. But if you just went for what you want, you have to use the same amount of energy, same amount of time, same amount of effort, and then you get what you want, or you don't but either way you went for what you actually wanted. It's worth it, it's so worth it.

So next time you're judging yourself or having some wild idea there might be so many things that say you can't have that right now. That's crazy. That's wild. It's too much. Who do you think you are? You should be grateful for what you have? I don't know how I’m going to get there? What if I fail? Who am I to even think about wanting this?

Next time that happened? Just just cast it aside. Okay. Thank you ladies. Thank you noise. I'm just going to have you sit down there for a second. You can make as much noise as you like in a hot little minute. We're going to come back to what it is that I actually want. I'm just going to let myself bask in this thing that nobody knows I'm doing because it's between my ears. Nobody can see me. Nobody can see the dream that is imprinted on the inside of my skull, and it's gonna hang out here for a little bit.

I'm going to let myself dream and from that space, feel the feelings of having it.

And ask yourself what is one thing I can do in the direction of that. What's one thing I can do in the direction of that, and I promise you, you can break it down to getting on Google, picking up a pen, picking up a piece of paper or the phone.

You know you can break it down to something very small to begin, and you will be so delighted at how quickly your life transforms when you are willing to do that. You're willing to do that. It's incredible.

So what I want you to think about right now is that in this moment, you are potentially living the dream that a past version of you thought was impossible. It doesn't feel wild and impossible when you're doing it just feels like normal.

But how I see this is when we allow ourselves to dream we break down the barriers of time, space, matter and energy and we tap into the field where all of pure potentiality exists.

And the more we allow ourselves to go there and take action, just very simply, non attached non emotional from that place in alignment with what we want. We collapse time and space and we bring magnificent things into our lives, magnificent things into our lives.

But what stops us in our very first tracks in the beginning is our inability to even let ourselves dream and this is why when I say, when we're going from highly functional to exceptional, the SMART goals can really hold us back, because time has no consequence when we're dealing with the quantum field. Realistic has no consequence when we're dealing with the quantum field.

I'm more interested in what feels absolutely wild, impossible and unrealistic to you in making that happen. Because when you do that, you get the proof of your limitless nature. And when you know that you're limitless, you'll still have ideas about yourself not being able to do something in a certain area, but you'll constantly prove yourself wrong.

And we need more people in the world who prove their limitations wrong and become an example for others.

So the beginning of 2022 I wish you the most wonderfully limitless incredible year.

And I want to invite you to dream.

You can dream silently, privately. You can dream in a space where you feel very comfortable and nurtured in what it is that you're dreaming about. I know that there are some spaces where it's just not a great idea to share our dreams and there are some spaces where it is so great to share our dreams and I really hope that the space I'm holding for you with this podcast and wherever we get to connect that it feels safe for you to go wild with your dreams.

And one of my favorite things is when one of my clients tell me that something that they said when we started our work together that felt absolutely impossible to them has just happened and it happens over and over and over again. It's just our willingness to let ourselves dream that begins the process. So I wish you all the best dreaming is free. Have the best time between your ears. I'll see you in the next episode.

Stay Curious, Stay open. The life you crave is so much closer than you think.
