Just... don't! My Favorite Joke...

We all have challenges in life that are difficult to shake. Those niggling fears, the negative thinking and behavioural patterns that just seem hard wired into who we are. But…

… imagine a future without that stuff getting in your way, bogging you down and stopping you from living the life you truly want.

It’s actually quite a simple fix.

In this episode, I talk about how so much of what we identify with is actually from our past and that we don’t have to bring that into our future. I break things down from an Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) and quantum linguistics perspective to talk about the power of affirmations and I share some simple distinctions that will help you change your life.

I talk about how to slam your challenges back into the past and be present in the now where you have the opportunity to make a conscious choice about who you are today.

We create the world we exist in with the language that we use. It really can be that simple.

When we talk about things we don’t want to do like the thing is what we do do in the here and now we are keeping the problem alive. We talk as if we are stuck or it’s solid but when we talk about these things as something we used to be or used to do you are slamming that problem into the past.

The language you use determines who you are in the here and now.

This is not fake it ‘til you make it, this is the power of affirmations; it is about bringing a new level of awareness to the present. For example instead of ‘I will be happy…’ say ‘I am happy’. Instead of ‘I get really annoyed when ….’ say ‘I used to get really annoyed when … and now I …’

In one of my Play Bigger Feel Better group events, one of my incredible clients came up and sat on the ‘hot’ seat for some coaching. After she had shared her problem of what she does, I said to her ‘How do you know you are doing this right now?’

She just paused and went a little cross-eyed and went ‘well I am not doing it right now.’

My response was ‘well… so how about you continue not doing it anymore?’ She was initially hesitant and then was like ‘OK’ and she sat down to some giggles from the group because it was such a nice clean breakthrough, a moment of recognising how much choice we have in any moment.

We have a little joke about this ‘Just don’t do that anymore’ in my Fierce Salon group all the time and it’s almost the same as one of my favorite videos shown below with Bob Newhart called ‘Stop It.’

Now I will leave you with these two questions

  1. Is how I am speaking about myself how I want to be in the future?

  2. Is how I am speaking about myself and my life actually present in the here and now and how do you know?
